FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” stars Steve Carell (The Way Way Back, Foxcatcher), Jennifer Garner (Alias, Dallas Buyers Club), Ed Oxenbould (Julian, Paper Planes), Dylan Minnette (Prisoners, Lost), Kerris Dorsey (Moneyball, Brothers & Sisters), Megan Mullally (The Kings of Summer, Bee Movie), and Bella Thorne (Blended, Shake it Up!). Alexander Cooper (Oxenbould) has had some pretty bad days. In fact, he has been having bad days his whole life. His family, however, is living the dream, with his brother Anthony (Minnette) going to be the prom Duke, his sister Emily (Dorsey) acting as Peter Pan in the school play, his father Ben (Carell) getting interviewed for a job at a video game company, and his mom Kelly getting so close to the promotion that she has been dreaming of. Alexander is having a birthday party the next day so at midnight, he makes himself a little celebration by himself and even makes a wish on a candle. His wish? That his family recognizes what he goes through so that they can understand him. And apparently his wish comes true and his family has to survive the worst day of their lives.

I had no expectations for this movie. It wasn’t on my list of must-watch movies, but I didn’t mind giving it a try since the trailer wasn’t all too bad. I thought I was in for a classic Disney experience for all the family to enjoy. Well…..it definitely wasn’t what I expected, and that is a bad thing in this case. Although it is okay for families to watch, it felt like this movie was conceived at Disney Channel and they decided to throw in some big names to make it in theaters. The plot was random. It felt like it had nothing going for it. I mean, cool they have a bad day and you see funny things (if you actually laugh) happen, but overall this movie left a bitter taste walking away from it. It made me feel depressed watching it, like it was a chore to watch the movie in most parts. The special effects were okay. The acting was mainly the only great thing about this movie. All the cast did great jobs acting, even the kids. It just didn’t feel like I was watching a real film. Yes, there were some parts that were funny and good, but there were only a few. Other than that, there really isn’t much more to say about this movie, but to pass on it (unless you really like Disney Channel movies). FINAL SCORE: 59%= Burnt Popcorn
