FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: “Fury” stars Brad Pitt (World War Z, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Shia LaBeouf (Transformers [2007], Holes), Jon Bernthal (Snitch, The Walking Dead), and Michael Pena (Shooter, American Hustle). It is April, 1945. The Allies have been fighting a very long war and now they are in Germany, closing in on Hitler and the Nazis. He becomes so desperate, that he forces every man, woman, and child to join the army, not surrendering to the Allies and keeping the war alive. A war-hardened sergeant named Don “Wardaddy” Collier (Pitt) is the leader of a Sherman tank, named Fury, and its passengers, Boyd “Bible” Swan (LaBeouf), Trini “Gordo” Garcia (Pena), and Grady “Coon-Ass” Travis (Bernthal). After extensive battle to get into Germany, they become the only tank left in their platoon, and with a cost. One of their own dies in the tank and they are forced to take another soldier to control it. They end up taking Norman Ellison (Lerman), a young man who has only been in the army for eight weeks and hasn’t seen war. With Germany having more advanced tanks and a whole lot of soldiers, it will be a rough journey for Don and his crew to win the war.

When I saw that this movie was rated R for gruesome scenes, I didn’t expect the sheer mass of violence and bloodshed that this movie gave out. One thing that is great about this movie is that it describes war exactly how we would imagine it to be. I’ve never been to war or served in the armed forces, but I could tell that this movie played a great part because it looked like it was real. The story was very good in this movie, giving the viewer a sense of anxiety that goes into war and just immersing the viewer into what really went down in terms of warfare. The acting was probably the strongest part of this film with a slew of famous actors taking the lead. All of their performances were well done from Brad Pitt’s sternness to Shia LeBeouf’s emotional, relying-on-faith manner. The action and special effects were good as well. All the explosions were awesome and the special effects of blood and dead people made it all seen very real, making your skin crawl. There were some special effects that could’ve been done better like the explosions that came off of the tank’s bullets, but other than that, the effects were done, as always, fantastically. Cons of this movie for me would be that there were parts that were far-fetched. There was this one scene where Norman scouted a huge army heading towards them and sprinted a long ways to tell his group, but it took about 10-15 minutes for them to show up. Or there was a scene where someone was shot around the heart three times and didn’t die. Another con would be that there were some parts that lingered on for a bit and were dull. And the last con would be that the ending wasn’t the most enjoyable. This is a sad movie altogether and even though I predicted the ending to be the way it is, I still thought it could’ve been done better. But, I’m not the writer so I can’t change anything. Overall, this movie gave a great experience to watch and it gives a deep look into the eyes of war. For those of you war-buffs or fans that like action and realism, this film is the right thing for you! FINAL SCORE: 84%= Juicy Popcorn
