“The Monuments Men”

FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: Last night I picked up the movie “The Monuments Men” which stars George Clooney (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Gravity), Matt Damon (We Bought a Zoo, The Bourne Identity), Bill Murray (Zombieland, Ghostbusters), Cate Blanchett (The Lord of the Rings, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), John Goodman (Monsters University, Evan Almighty), Jean Dujardin (The Artist, The Wolf of Wall Street), Hugh Bonneville (Downtown Abbey, Notting Hill), Bob Balaban (Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Moonrise Kingdom), and Dimitri Leonidas (Centurion, Tormented). This movie is placed during World War II and follows a platoon of men that are tasked to go into Germany to take back stolen artwork and return them to their rightful place. This group known as “The Monuments Men” consist of eight men: Frank Stokes (Clooney), James Granger (Damon), Richard Campbell (Murray), Walter Garfield (Goodman), Jean Claude Clermont (Dujardin), Donald Jeffries (Bonneville), Preston Savitz (Balaban), and Sam Epstein (Leonidas). Each of them have done something in the arts and are very determined to get back the artwork. I thought the movie was okay. The story was okay, there was a great cast involved, it was a little funny, and there were good battle scenes. The con of this movie that makes it an overall “okay” are that there are spots throughout the movie that are slow and make you want to check the time, which is a pretty big con. I would’ve said this movie was burnt popcorn, but I did find two great aspects of the film to level that out. One would be how I love artwork and anything to do with art and this movie’s main objective is having to do with artwork. The last one is that I can feel that this movie had a lot of heart put into it, especially with the acting. You can feel that this film wants to prove how valuable and meaningful art is and that is what saved this movie for me. Even though it didn’t get a big score, it still did okay and I thought that it wasn’t a mistake to watch it! FINAL SCORE: 74%= Juicy Popcorn
