FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: To start off the month of May 2014, I watched “47 Ronin” which stars Keanu Reeves (Constantine, Something’s Gotta Give), Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine, Lost), Ko Shibasaki (One Missed Call, Go), Tadanobu Asano (Thor, Battleship), Min Tanaka (Tekkonkinkreet, The Twilight Samurai), Jin Akanishi, and Rinko Kikuchi (Pacific Rim, The Brothers Bloom). A long time ago, while hunting in the forest, Lord Asano of Ako and his samurai find a half-breed laying on the ground. They take him in, but eventually the half-breed known as Kai is frowned upon by all of the citizens of Japan because of him being a half-breed. Years later during the night after a tournament held by Lord Asano to welcome the Shogun to Ako, Lord Asano is bewitched to attack Lord Kira of Nagato. The punishment by the Shogun is death and after Lord Asano kills himself, his samurai find out that it was Lord Kira’s doing so that he could take over Ako. Now the samurai of Ako are banished to become Ronin and a year later Oishi, the former samurai leader, gathers up the former samurai and the half-breed to get revenge on Lord Kira and avenge the death of Lord Asano. I thought the movie was average. The story was okay, the acting was good, and the special effects were good. Other than that, the cons of this movie are that it was hard to hear what the actors were saying in the movie and the biggest con is that the ending was bad. I thought the ending wasn’t great and that it was just like the movie was done all for nothing. FINAL SCORE: 70%= Burnt Popcorn
