“1917” wowed audiences with its illusion of being a oner (one continuous shot). I didn’t expect much from it when it was first announced, but once I heard of this feat they were trying to pull off, I was intrigued. Ultimately, the movie did not disappoint. Sam Mendes and Roger Deakins mastered what they sought to do, capturing a story that revels in the small, quiet moments, while also giving way to explosive, high-octane scenes. However, it does not proceed in the elimination race, settling for fifth place.
