April Movie Rankings

april movie rankings

I have said this before, but time does fly by fast. This was the last full month of reviews I have made before I graduate, with only two Fridays left until that date arrives. Like all other months, this one was interesting. I got to see “Batman v. Superman” as well as “The Shawshank Redemption.” Although one of those stunk, I would consider this month a win, as I enjoyed reviewing every single one of these.

april 1

#9- “Batman v. Superman”
69%= Burnt Popcorn
Pros: Most of Ben Affleck’s Batman, the cinematography, some of the visual effects were cool, and the action scenes were awesome to watch.
Cons: The story was a mess, it had many plot holes, most of the acting was bland or awful, Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor was horrid, product placement blew up in my face, and it felt like two different films crammed together.

#8- “Creed”
78%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Good acting, good beginning, Sylvester Stallone was great, and it had some great qualities.
Cons: Can be boring, doesn’t have much originality, and Adonis Creed isn’t as developed as he should be.

#7- “In the Heart of the Sea”
79%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Solid acting, great special effects, good action scenes, interesting story, and it has a good feel to it.
Cons: The characters are not fleshed out well and there are some dull moments.

#6- “The Imitation Game”
81%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Great dialogue, well-acted, good idea and plot, great cinematography, and great time setting.
Cons: It changed to a different story towards the end about accepting gay people, rather than the importance of beating Enigma.

april 3

#5- “The Peanuts Movie”
85%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Great animation, nice to watch, relaxing, innocent writing, and funny at times.
Cons: Some aspects were random, cliché, or unnecessary.

#4- “The Hateful Eight”
86%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Fantastic acting, great chemistry among characters, unpredictable, great cinematography, and good story overall.
Cons: Some dialogue feels like it is force feeding me the plot, blood can be outrageously silly, and some scenes are unnecessary.

april 4

#3- “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”
88%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Unique story, good acting, fun writing, quirky design, and funny.
Cons: The second half shifted tone, losing direction and eventually becoming boring at times.

#2- “The End of the Tour”
90%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Terrific acting, engaging dialogue, and fresh story.
Cons: Doesn’t present much of a resolution (there wasn’t much going on besides Eisenberg and Segel’s conversation).

april 5

#1- “9”
93%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Animation has held up for the most part, new story, great voice acting, dark, nice characters, and interesting.
Cons: The plot felt rushed.

Another month gone, another victor crowned. “9” will go up against “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” “Sicario,” “The Martian,” “Batman Begins,” and the rest of the Movie of the Months in January 2017 in order to decide who will be the next Movie of the Year.
