“The Avengers”

MARVEL MOVIE MADNESS REVIEW: Loki- “I have an army.” Tony- “We have a Hulk.” Thursday has come and so has the end of the MCU: Phase One of Marvel Movie Madness. The last movie in the first phase is “The Avengers” which stars Robert Downey Jr. (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man), Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Captain America: The First Avenger), Chris Hemsworth (Snow White and the Huntsman, Thor), Mark Ruffalo (13 Going on 30, Now You See Me), Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2, The Prestige), Jeremy Renner (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, American Hustle), Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, The Incredibles), Tom Hiddleston (War Horse, Thor: The Dark World), Clark Gregg (Marvel’s Agents of Shield, [500] Days of Summer), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, Delivery Man), Stellan Skarsgard (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Good Will Hunting), Gwyneth Paltrow (Contagion, Se7en), Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, Inkheart), and Stan “The Man” Lee (The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man). In this epic movie, chaos is approaching as Loki (Hiddleston) comes to Earth to activate the Tesserac to open a portal to bring an army from another realm. Because of this, Nick Fury (Jackson), director of the secret agency S.H.I.E.L.D., has gathered up four of the superheroes in the past movies, Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Downey Jr.), Steve Rogers aka Captain America (Evans), Bruce Banner aka Hulk (Ruffalo), and Thor (Hemsworth) along with two trained agents Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow (Johansson) and Clint Barton aka Hawkeye (Renner) to stop Loki before he succeeds.

This movie is one of the MCU’s most prime movies. The way Disney has set up its line with each superheroes individual movies to lead up to this ultimate clash is genius. I remember when the trailer came out for this and how pumped I was because of how they have hinted at this for years. This movie just sums up every superhero movie lover’s dreams. The story was great giving us flawless action and out of this world special effects. The acting was also on point especially showing us collaboration and chemistry between characters that we’ve only seen in their own movies. You can’t just hate this movie because it is a true gem. I can watch this over and over again and still be amazed. I give props to Disney and anyone that worked on it, especially the director Joss Whedon. Of course, not every movie is perfect and I do have some cons for it. The first thing that I have to get out of the way is Tony’s arc reactor. You can see it through his shirt shining in some scenes, but for some reason a lot of other scenes show it not coming through at all even though it is the same shirt. I’ve never noticed it until I watched it this time and it got wedged into my mind for most of the movie. Another is Captain America. While I do favor Captain America and Chris Evan’s acting, for some reason his character seems stiff in this movie. I mean everyone is funny and laid back, but Captain America has been “quit fooling around and why is Hydra all over this place?” Don’t get me wrong, as a whole in this movie he did fine, but there are just some parts in the film that didn’t cut it for me. Once Captain America: The Winter Soldier comes along though, he becomes one of the best characters in the franchise! Other than those, this movie didn’t seem to miss a beat and anyone can have a blast with it! I definitely recommend it to anyone to watch!!! FINAL SCORE: 97%= Juicy Popcorn

This movie has been inducted into The Juicy Hall of Fame.

Changes have been made to this review after The Juicy Awards of 2014. They do not effect the results of what has previously been punched in for Movie of the Year.
