FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: To start off September, I watched the movie “Divergent” which stars Shailene Woodley (The Fault in Our Stars, The Descendants), Theo James (The Inbetweeners, Underworld: Awakenings), Ashley Judd (High Crimes, Heat), Jai Courtney (Jack Reacher, A Good Day to Die Hard), Ray Stevenson (The Book of Eli, Thor: The Dark World), Zoe Kravitz (After Earth, X-Men: First Class), Miles Teller (That Awkward Moment, The Spectacular Now), Tony Goldwyn (Ghost, Tarzan), Ansel Elgort (Carrie, The Fault in Our Stars), Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard, Mission Impossible III), and Kate Winslet (Titanic, The Holiday). This movie is set in the future where human society is enclosed in a city where everyone is put into five factions: Erudite, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and Abnegation. Our main character, Beatrice (Woodley), resides in the Abnegation faction with her family. They are peaceful people who govern citizens and feed the factionless, but Beatrice doesn’t feel like this is the right faction for her. She is sixteen, and since she is that age, she has to go take an aptitude test with other sixteen-year-olds including her brother. The test will tell the person what faction they belong in based on their thoughts, but that doesn’t mean that they have to choose that faction. In the end, it will come down to a ceremony where the person chooses which faction that they want to be in, but there are no take-backs. So when Beatrice takes her test, it turns out that she doesn’t just belong to one faction, but a couple more at the same time. These people are called Divergents and if anyone else found out that, she would be killed out of fear. When it’s time to choose which faction she wants to be in, Beatrice chooses the Dauntless which are a faction of extremists who are basically the protectors of the city from danger. To be an official member though, Beatrice has to stay above the red line on the list of new recruits because if she’s below it, she will be kicked out and become factionless. I thought this movie did fairly well, having no high expectations for it. The story was done pretty good, the acting was good, the special effects were great as well as the action scenes, and the concept was really good with the way the future was set up. Cons of this movie would be how it got rough in some patches of the movie, mainly being slow in dialogue. Other than that, the movie was good and I recommend anyone who hasn’t watched it to give it a go!!! FINAL SCORE: 82%= Juicy Popcorn
