SATURDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: So, this is a rare occasion for me to review a movie on Saturday instead of Friday, but I didn’t see a movie Friday and I did on Saturday so I didn’t feel like lying and saying that I reviewed this for Friday. Anyway the movie I saw last night is called “The Butler” which stars Forest Whitaker (Platoon, The Last King of Scotland), David Banner (2 Fast 2 Furious, Street Kings), Mariah Carey (Oz The Great and Powerful, Rush Hour), Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four, Beastly), Oprah Winfrey (The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Color Purple), David Oyelowo (Jack Reacher, Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Terrance Howard (Big Mamma’s House, Iron Man), Cuba Gooding Jr. (Norbit, Jerry Maguire), Robin Williams (Good Will Hunting, Jumanji), John Cusack (1408, Being John Malkovich), and James Marsden (Enchanted, X-Men). This movie is based on a true story, following the life of Cecil Gaines who is raised working in a cotton farm and grows up to be a butler for the White House serving to eight presidents over the years. In his life, he has constantly had to deal with problems with segregation, especially with his oldest son Louis (Oyelowo) and dealing with his wife, Gloria (Winfrey) who constantly gets drunk because she is always alone with him gone all the time. The story also gets mixed in with the civil rights movement with Marin Luther King Jr. I thought the movie was alright. I did like how there was a lot of well known actresses and actors in it as well as the acting that was given by them. My biggest concern was how much the movie dragged out with me having to check what time it was a couple times. Other than that big issue, the movie was okay overall and if you are into true story movies or biographies then you should check this one out! FINAL SCORE: 77%= Juicy Popcorn
