“White House Down”

FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: Last night I saw another White House related movie. It is funny because I started out this month with a movie on taking out the White House and now I’m ending this month with another movie on taking out the White House. Anyway this movie is called “White House Down” starring Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street [movie], The Vow), Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained, Collateral), Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Knight, Donnie Darko), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Lawless), Richard Jenkins (Jack Reacher, Step Brothers), Joey King (Oz the Great and Powerful, The Conjuring), and James Woods (Once Upon a Time in America, Casino). Obviously this movie is basically the downfall of the White House just like “Olympus has Fallen”. When a Capitol policeman named John Cale (Tatum) takes his daughter Emily (King) to the White House for a fun day to get on his daughter’s good side, all goes wrong. He went to sign up for a job as secret protection for the President (Foxx), but was turned down on the account that the woman he is getting an interview from, Finnerty (Gyllenhaal), can’t count on him for protection. After his job interview, he takes his daughter on the White House tour since she is all into politics. But, while they are in the middle of the tour, the White House is seized by a heavily armed paramilitary group. John and his daughter get separated and he escapes to find her. In the middle of trying to find her, he kills an enemy soldier and gets in on where the President is from the enemy’s walkie-talkie. He finds the President and saves him. Since no one can get into the White House because of hostages being held, it is up to John and the President to take out the soldiers and save the hostages and the White House. I thought the movie was good, considering I saw almost the same concept before, and the special effects were great too with all the guns going off and the explosions in it. I didn’t understand some point in the ending (SPOILERS AHEAD) with how John spent the whole movie trying to save his daughter and in the end when everyone is saved, the mom of Emily instantly lets her go into the President’s helicopter even though she spent the whole movie stressing about her daughter’s safety. (OVER WITH THE SPOILER) Other than that, the movie was good. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for a good action movie to watch! FINAL SCORE: 81%= Juicy Popcorn
