November Movie Rankings

2022 NOVEMBER MOVIE RANKINGS

Another month gone in a snap. Six more film reviews are in the can, most of which are classics that my girlfriend and I watched together. Having moved closer together in the city of Atlanta, it’s become more accessible/easy to watch the movies we grew up on with each other. “Ghostbusters” and “Shrek 2” are from my treasure trove, while she presented me “My Fair Lady” and “The Aristocats.” Not much room has been left for anything else, though I did manage to see a few titles from this year.

November looked a bit different for me this go-around. For the first time, I didn’t go home for Thanksgiving (spent it in Florida with the girlfriend’s family), and most of the month was spent either editing a documentary I shot months ago or working on a Snoop Dogg film set. Change has been ever-present here in Atlanta; I’m definitely looking forward to Christmas with my folks.

How was your all’s November? One for the books or one to be erased? Let me know down below in the comments section.

Anywho, let’s see how this month turned out…

#4- “The Aristocats”
77%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Solid hand-drawn animation, good voice acting, fun storyline, and an all-around sweet adventure.
Cons: The short runtime made it easy to not get too invested in the characters, and the development of story elements was fairly hastened.

#3- “My Fair Lady” (1964)
85%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Fantastic production design and wardrobe, wonderful performances (Audrey Hepburn is a knock-out), entertaining concept/story, and a solid theme.
Cons: The songs were hit-or-miss for me and Eliza’s father wasn’t really a necessary character.

#2- “See How They Run” (2022)
88%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Stylistically beautiful, wonderful period piece design, terrific ensemble cast, sweet leading chemistry, and witty story.
Cons: The story itself isn’t as enthralling as I would like, opting for style over narrative substance.

#1- “The Banshees of Inisherin”
91%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Terrific performances, breath-taking landscapes, funny, endearing/emotional story that gets you, and a good theme on how we spend our time and the friendships we invest in.
Cons: There were a few lulls in the pacing.

Juicy Hall of Fame Inductee“Ghostbusters” (1984)
96%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Unique concept, classic design, great acting, iconic 80s fanfare, killer theme song, funny, and incredibly entertaining.
Cons: The relationship between Vinkman and Dana doesn’t have that believable of a resolve, the sexual innuendos are… meh, and I wish we could’ve seen more from the Ghostbusters (instead of whisking it away through a montage).

Juicy Hall of Fame Inductee“Shrek 2”
97%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Great animation, wildly funny, wonderful voice acting, solid new characters, tight story structure, and an instant-classic.
Cons: Predictable… but still entertaining nonetheless.

And just like that, “The Banshees of Inisherin” takes November, and will go on to compete against “The Princess Bride,” “Luca,” “The Batman” (2022), “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Northman,” “The Karate Kid,” “Singin’ in the Rain,” “Tarzan” (1999), “Zodiac,” “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” “The Village” (2004), and whoever wins December to decide who will become the next Movie of the Year!
